The Boiling Springs High School  LMC combined National School Library Month and National Poetry Month by sponsoring a Book Spine Poetry Contest. The students only have to create a "poem" by using the titles off the spines of five to fifteen books in their collection. If you go to this link BSHSLMC Annual Report 2009-10 you can see a photo of the winning title, along with a lot of other interesting information.   Here are the titles but you really need to see the photo of the actual books stacked up to get the full impact.

Say what??  Yes, 36 Pages, that is the number of pages in most picture books and this is a blog all about picture books, acknowledging how hard it is to limit oneself to such limited space and celebrating those creative souls who do it well.

Check out her new wiki (OK, so you'll see where I found the Washington Post widget...but I shared with all of you!) If I'm not mistaken the main image with all the linkable items which circle in hot pink when you hover over them is made in Glogster.
Pretty cool.

While you're there look at her Annual Report....breathe deep, very deep...and move a little closer to the 21st Century Library.

Just click on The Washington Post to be taken to their site.  Look a the very bottom of their page for a link to their widgets.  Cut and paste the html code into your  own page.

that students and staff can access a collection of clip art through our Discovery Education page in the Online Resources. You don't even have to login to get to them. Look for the Classroom Resources....then pull down the Featured Content menu and look for Clip Art.     Just one of many resources available for students, staff and parents at Discovery Education.

This means all of you, too!!!  Check out this post on the...
"Making Teachers Nerdy" blog.
I don't know whether to be relieved that I've heard of ten of them or panicky that I only really use three. Guess I need to see what I'm missing!!

Thanks a lot, Janet, for sharing this and giving us no excuse for not being on the cutting edge.

I haven't read this yet, in fact I don't own a copy...yet, but it is at the top of my purchase list.  Book List, Library Journal and the Amazon customer reviews all give it high praise. We'll be getting a copy for he LMS Professional collection but it looks like something you might want for your teachers AND parents.

Be sure to read on down and not miss the article  titled "Content Consumption versus Content Creation."  As we look at libraries becoming "Learning Commons" these are issues we need to address.  The articles here throw out some very thought provoking questions and don't pretend to offer definitive answers.  I, for one, appreciate having help in even refining the questions!!       Katie
