You'll love the video included in  this article about one of many events at the SLJ Leadership conference!  You might pick up some useful tips about making comics as well meet the makers of three different series!! Won't work for sharing with students but you'll come away with some great ideas to use with students and ways to talk to parents and staff about using graphic novels.
Enjoy

Check out a new book by Margi Preus called Celebritrees: Historic & famous trees of the world.  This was a non-fiction selection from Junior Library Guild. Take a look at the entry for it in Crawford's Library if you want more information.

If you'd like to learn Pirate before "Talk Like a Pirate Day" next Monday, pull out your public library card, go to the Noel Wien Library Web Page , find the Articles and Databases in the menu on the left, and once you're on that page scroll down to Languages and check out Mango Languages. There, you can indeed select Pirate and learn all the words and phrases you need to hang with the swashbucklers. Pretty swell, eh Matey?

To mark the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, Discovery Education (in conjunction with Steven Spielberg) has produced the six-part series RISING: REBUILDING GROUND ZERO. This series chronicles the massive effort to rehabilitate Ground Zero into a 16-acre multi-use complex. Please visit DiscoveryEducation.com/911 for more information.

Included with the series, Discovery has comprehensive lesson plans, discussion guides, and curricular content aligned to grade level. Another highlight  of these offerings is access to live events hosted in those communities most impacted, including New York, NY; Newark, NJ; Shanksville, PA; and Arlington, VA. Classrooms across the country will have the opportunity to participate in webcast panel discussions hosted by Paula Zahn and Danny Forester.

Tech & Learning is recommending this site, which is full of online  interactive tutorials and quizzes on human anatomy and physiology. Definitely geared towards older students but something to share with your health and science teachers.
