Thanks to Sharon for finding and sharing this colletion. Katie
There is a fantastic collection of videos at Edutopia called The Five Minute Film Festival: Teaching Digital Citizenship. It includes videos from a variety of sources on different aspects of digital citizenship. I will work on getting those on YouTube as part of our district YouTube collection but meanwhile you folks could get familiar with what is included to see if one or another suits your purposes best. There is quite a range to choose from Thanks to Sharon for finding and sharing this colletion. Katie Add Comment Have a minute to read what other in the profession are saying about children's literature? Pick a blog or two from this list provided by the organizers of KidLitoshpere, a conference of The Society of Bloggers in Children’s and Young Adult Literature. Look them over and think about setting up one or two with an RSS feed to your email. Or if you find they're something you can recommend to the parents of your students or your staff, put one or two on your web page to share. The page says the specific blogs were "chosen both for authority and for variety of topic areas." about decorating for the 31st. Have an old umbrella hanging around?? "Information literacy is defined as the ability to recognize a need for information and effectively and ethically use resources to find information. Schools and librarians offer the essential tools for information literacy and Information Literacy Month aims to recognize the hard work and expertise of our librarians and teachers." Something for your newsletters!!! BANNED WEBSITE AWARENESS DAY!!! October 3rd ! For more information and resources like the image on the left check out this webpage in the ALA News. Katie I found a wonderful site created by the librarian at Franklin LRC, with ideas for using QR codes in libraries. While we may not have access to all the resources she mentions there are certainly a lot we can use! And if you have time check out the other portions of her website. Katie So if a Wikipedia (or two or threes) article is turned into a book and downloaded as a ebook, could it then be distributed on iPads as a web clip or will it still be blocked by the filter? Read about in this Digital Shift blog post and/or watch the video below, then test it and let us all know! Looks like Shannon Miller has switched her energies to curating a site in Scoop.it also titled Two Libraries, One Voice, rather than maintaining a blog and it really makes a lot of sense. When I think about most of what I share with you folks, I think the format of Scoop.it would present the information better as I am mostly just sharing websites. If I were waxing philosophical and needing a forum for my musings perhaps a blog would be a better format. Lucky for you I prefer to pass on gems I've run across. So, this is a heads up! I might be switching formats soon. That's what technology is all about, ladies and gentlemen. Finding the best tool for the job! Meanwhile, be sure to bookmark Shannon's Scoop.it! It's full of treasures!! Katie Shannon Miller's latest post about Little Critter is jam packed with wonderful ideas but one I REALLY, REALLY like is the GoogleDoc she shares with her teachers so she can better support the students during their library visits. I think that should be our next group project in October but don't wait til then if you want to try it out. And be sure to read about all the other nifty things she did with with Little Critter!! If you missed this article, because it was published smack dab in the middle of summer...., you might find it useful as you're placing book orders. The Fiction Series Roundup is for grades 5 and up. And if you missed this Series Made Simple article with reviews about non-fiction series, it too could be useful as you create orders, especially in light of the new emphasis on informational literature. And while we're on the topic of books continuing a story line, this recent SLJ article is about sequels to many very popular award winners in the fiction world. I hope you find these all useful for keeping your readers satiated!! Katie |
