I'm pleased to be able to share access to Shannon Miller's Keynote address at AKLA 2013- Be The Change You Want To See In The World and it's a gold mine of information. Shannon is the Energizer Bunny of school librarians but full of tips and tricks for starting out slow and gradually adding to your repertoire of digital tools. In her afternoon session, Empower Your Students to Create Connect and Collaborate With Each Other, she took the time to walk folks through setting up Tweet Deck to make Twitter a manageable tool. That little tip alone was huge for us Twitter challenged folk. She also shared her 2012-13 K-12 Digital Citizenship, Technology, Library Science Curriculum and said anyone was welcome to utilize it, just give her credit. She also said she keeps improving it so check back often. I hope you'll all take a moment to check out what Shannon has to share. Katie Add Comment Check out what the TED Talks folk are up to for the K-12 education world in this post from the Committed Sardine. Think about linking to this from your webpages as well as sharing the information with your staff. Katie Take a minute to look at the new TeachingBooks.net page. Take another 3.5 minutes to watch their "Take a Tour" video and hear the highlights of what the website has to offer. If I were in an elementary library or a teacher who showcases authors each week or month I know I would be using their author videos like the one for Patricia Polacco. Teachers could also look at the lesson plans provided for author studies as well as the Reader's Theater scripts. So many great resouces!! kt |
