Many thanks to Stephan Abram for his Stephen's Lighthouse post about what the Pew Research folks have to say about how adults are using the Internet. I think this information could help us as we work with the parents of our students as well as in our work with each other improving our professional development and in becoming more successful in utilizing technology as a tool to engage our students and turn them into successful citizens.

Just because it's winter doesn't mean we don't go outside! Snowshoeing, dog mushing, trapping, ice skating, skiing: Alaskans are just as active in the winter as in the summer. Most of the display materials are from our kits. Of note are the beaded gloves, house, sled, and snowshoe models: these are all from our Athabascan Culture Unit kit.
Whew! It certainly has been busy around here since the beginning of November. The LMS team has hosted or facilitated three Professional Development sessions for our library staff, catalogued 473 items, and barcoded nearly 13,000 textbooks. Oh, and by the way, we managed to enjoy the Thanksgiving and Winter Break holidays as well. The rest of the month should prove to be just as exciting with three more Professional Development sessions and the general support of Destiny and its users. The fun never stops!

This is a reading kit we've just added. It's part of a series of low level / high interest kits designed to get boys reading by using a favored sport as the draw. Each kit comes with a poster, 10 student books, 2 activity books (K-2 and 3-6), and one big book. We have hockey, football, soccer, basketball, and baseball. We've got more photos in the
