This is a great post by "Geek Dad" on the WIRED website with his favorite laugh out loud books to read with his two daughters. How refreshing! Katie Add Comment ![]() NOT !! The Random Reader is a blog created by the parent of a reluctant reader (who is now working on graduate degree in library science...yeah!!) FOR the parents of reluctant readers. The focus appears to be for grades 6 and up but I can see parents of younger students getting some value from the site. I'd recommend adding it to any parent resources you have on your website(s). And check out the videos. I have added a couple to our YouTube playlists already. Katie This Common Sense Media article by Regan McMahon is something you might want to share with parents. And...you might want to check out some of the linked lists, like their Graphic Novels recommendations. Katie I'm sure there are lots of these lists out there. In this list CommonSense provides their rating as to what age they consider the titles to be appropriate. This could be useful when talking to parents. My goal is to just get half of those on the list read! I can only vouch for City of Ember and Little Brother, both good reads. The latter I would recommend for your older readers, especially boys. Very thought provoking, even more so than the Hunger Games as it is much more realistic. Katie |
