Closeups from the display case

Picture
Even the smallest things can evoke who a person was at a specific time. A few coins from France, Germany, and Hong Kong with his windproof lighter together with his ribbon bars, Good Conduct medal, 13th Armored Division patch, and dogtags is a fleeting snapshot of who this serviceman was at the time.

Here's an example of items that either are ready for check out or will be available. The books surrounding the newspapers are ready for check out (in our Alaska collection) and the newspapers will go into a kit. The idea with using the newspapers in a kit is to allow students to handle a local artifact and have that artifact give voice to what happened here when it was printed.

Another newspaper that will be ready for check out - this one a World War II-vintage copy of our very own Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. The LARGE headline at top says it all, I think.

Featured here is a teen book, the DVD Paper Clips, and part of the Geokit American History Series: 20th Century: 1910-1945 - all available for checkout.

The poster in this photo is from our poster set The Great War: Poster Set - it comes with seven other period poster reproductions of famous World War I posters. This set is a companion to the Great War Curriculum Package, a PBS series spanning eight 60-minute videos.
