I hope you enjoy this video as much as I. Be sure to check out the girls individual posters!
I found another great collection of library display ideas on a board called Audacious Library Displays. While the majority are probably elementary I did spot enough good ones for secondary that I'd recommend middle and high school folk check out out too. For example…. Shelfies (see below), Literary Elements (as in periodic table), "PUTYOURFACEINABOOK", multiple mine craft boards and several 'choose KIND' in response to Wonder boards.
But my words don't hold a candle to seeing the photos of these great bulletin boards so log into Pinterest and check it out here! Katie
PS High school…. look for Open up The Chick Lit
Here is an idea for promoting your library. I'm thinking it would be possible to make a virtual tour that is a little more basic than this creation by Naomi Bates, librarian at Northwest High School in Texas but dream BIG and use the technology skills you have at hand!! Katie
I think you'll all find this very professionally crafted short video of interest. Katie
Print out these wonderful posters and put them up around your school!!
Thank you, Peter Reynolds for believing in us.
If you don't have access to a color printer just give us a call and say "pretty please!" Katie
Go to this site at Ilovelibraries.org to sign a virtual declaration of support for libraries. Doesn't take but a minute and we know how each signature can eventually add up to a wave of support!!
Read this great post from Doug Johnson on his Blue Skunk blog and think about rewriting that letter you send home to parents at the beginning of each year. Or rewrite that first newsletter article of the year where you tell what the library has to offer. He has such a healthy positive outlook on library services.
If you haven't already read the SLJ article on how this Tumblr site came about you might enjoy learning its history. However, the posts on the LCML site are fascinating and so rewarding to read. But they're preaching to the choir so WE need to figure out how to get library funders to this site to discover the importance of libraries to our patrons. Unfortunately Tumblr is blocked in our district so perhaps posting a short mention with the URL, http://librarieschangedmylife.tumblr.com/ , in a newsletter home would be an approach to take. Please share other ideas you have. Katie
PS I just decided to bookmark the LCML site on my toolbar. What a pick-me-up it will be to read just one post a day!!
I was crushed to find out that the next round of proposed cuts to be delivered the school board on Monday includes the elimination of the entire Library Media Services department! I don't see how cutting LMS keeps the cuts "as far away from the classroom as possible." What a loss to the students to not have access to all of the kits maintained & circulated by LMS, not to speak of the online resources which now include over 500 ebooks! I sure hope I can report on Tuesday that the board decided NOT to take this extreme measure to avoid cutting class sizes. Katie
